I don’t have time to look in to this at the moment but it seems pretty cool. Thanks to Jeremy Zawodny for the pointer!

Things are looking up for online music if QTrax launch what they’ve promised! It will be interesting to see if a fully ad funded model is sustainable and workable from an operational perspective.

Seems like it was too good to be true! No real deals signed!

Here we go again, not sure this is going to work without human editing. Also, the twitter API never seems to be very consistent when pulling messages from the public timeline (which I’m presuming this does)

From the BBC Backstage mailing list, good stuff!
Facebook opens JavaScript developer API
January 27, 2008
Facebook have opened up their platform via a JavaScript API that allows you to host apps on your own server but leverage the Facebook community of your users. Jeremiah Owyang has a nice summary of what this means for the non-developers of this world.
I really like this approach, there’s a definite trend to offering simple API’s using JavaScript, it’s a quick and easy way to integrate functionality that in the past would have required a potentially more complex server to server integration. Another advantage of this approach is that you move the integration cost from the server to the client.

Confirmation that the Mac Book Air is dead in the water. It will get dropped from the product line faster than the Cube!

A tip from my sister, you can now run the latest version of OpenOffice directly in your browser. It’s a Java applet based implementation which takes a while to load but pretty handy if you only have access to a browser. Comes with 1GB of free storage.

Interesting news, will we see Automattic taking on Ning and building a social network service to sit alongside the WordPress.com offering?

New version of this tool is very good. Don’t waste your time hunting through your start menu, Ctrl+Space type and hit return to launch any installed app. A real time saver!
-
I didn’t know this existed until now, very useful for any geographical based apps.

Interesting case study via the Scrum Alliance.

LocateMe on iPhone 1.1.2 firmware
January 21, 2008
LocateMe from Soneso calculates your current location based on cell information in much the same way as the new Maps application does on the 1.1.3 firmware. You have to start LocateMe, wait until it calculates your position and then tap show on map so it’s not quite so smooth as the 1.1.3 version of Maps.
If you want this capability and are still running 1.1.2 follow these instructions (you have to have Installer.app already installed):
Go to Installer -> Sources than add a new source named: http://www.soneso.com/iphone
After doing so you will find a new install folder named Soneso (Installer -> Install). You’ll find LocateMe in this folder tap it and then tap Install.
